Esercizio - ascissa curvilinea di una spirale conica

Teoria: Lunghezza di una curva e ascissa curvilineaLa lunghezza di una curva è l'estremo superiore delle lunghezze delle poligonali inscritte. Se r è C^1 la curva è rettificabile e ℓ = ∫|r'(t)|dt (grafici: ∫√(1+f'^2); polari: ∫√(f²+f'^2)). La lunghezza non cambia riparametrizzando, anche invertendo il verso. L'ascissa curvilinea s(t)=∫|r'| dà la parametrizzazione a velocità 1: T = dr/ds. Con essa si definiscono curvatura κ=|dT/ds| e normale N; l'accelerazione è a = v' T + κ v² N.Lunghezza di una curva e ascissa curvilinea →.

Testo. Sia γ:[0,1]→R3\gamma : [0, 1] \to \mathbb{R}^3, γ(t)=(etcos⁡t, etsin⁡t, et)\gamma(t) = (e^t\cos t,\ e^t\sin t,\ e^t) (una spirale che si avvolge sul cono z2=x2+y2z^2 = x^2 + y^2).

  1. Mostrare che è regolare e calcolarne la lunghezza.
  2. Scrivere la parametrizzazione ad arco γ~(s)\tilde\gamma(s) e verificare che ∣γ~′(s)∣=1|\tilde\gamma'(s)| = 1.
  3. Dimostrare che l'angolo tra γ′\gamma' e l'asse zz è costante.

(Esercizio costruito per queste note sul modello dell'esercizio sull'ascissa curvilinea del corso.)

Soluzione

1. Velocità e lunghezza. Derivando con la regola del prodotto: γ′(t)=(et(cos⁡t−sin⁡t), et(sin⁡t+cos⁡t), et).\gamma'(t) = \big(e^t(\cos t - \sin t),\ e^t(\sin t + \cos t),\ e^t\big). Il quadrato della norma: ∣γ′∣2=e2t[(cos⁡t−sin⁡t)2+(sin⁡t+cos⁡t)2+1]=e2t [ 2+1 ]=3e2t|\gamma'|^2 = e^{2t}\big[(\cos t - \sin t)^2 + (\sin t + \cos t)^2 + 1\big] = e^{2t}\,[\,2 + 1\,] = 3e^{2t} perché (cos⁡t−sin⁡t)2+(sin⁡t+cos⁡t)2=2(cos⁡2t+sin⁡2t)=2(\cos t - \sin t)^2 + (\sin t + \cos t)^2 = 2(\cos^2 t + \sin^2 t) = 2 (i doppi prodotti si elidono). Dunque v(t)=3 et>0v(t) = \sqrt3\,e^t > 0: regolare (anche per la terza componente et≠0e^t\ne0). La lunghezza: L=∫013 et dt=3 (e−1).L = \int_0^1\sqrt3\,e^t\,dt = \sqrt3\,(e - 1) .

2. Ascissa curvilinea. s(t)=∫0t3 eτdτ=3 (et−1)s(t) = \int_0^t\sqrt3\,e^\tau d\tau = \sqrt3\,(e^t - 1), con s∈[0,3(e−1)]s\in[0, \sqrt3(e-1)]. Si inverte: et=1+s3e^t = 1 + \frac{s}{\sqrt3}, cioè t(s)=ln⁡ ⁣(1+s3)t(s) = \ln\!\big(1 + \frac{s}{\sqrt3}\big). Sostituendo in γ\gamma (con w=1+s/3w = 1 + s/\sqrt3 per brevità, et=we^{t} = w): γ~(s)=(wcos⁡ln⁡w, wsin⁡ln⁡w, w),w=1+s3.\tilde\gamma(s) = \big(w\cos\ln w,\ w\sin\ln w,\ w\big),\qquad w = 1 + \frac{s}{\sqrt3} . Verifica. dwds=13\frac{dw}{ds} = \frac1{\sqrt3} e, per la regola della catena, γ~′(s)=γ′(t(s))⋅t′(s)\tilde\gamma'(s) = \gamma'(t(s))\cdot t'(s) con t′(s)=13 wt'(s) = \frac{1}{\sqrt3\,w}. Quindi ∣γ~′∣=∣γ′∣⋅t′=3 w⋅13 w=1|\tilde\gamma'| = |\gamma'|\cdot t' = \sqrt3\,w\cdot\frac{1}{\sqrt3\,w} = 1 ✓ (qui ∣γ′(t(s))∣=3et(s)=3 w|\gamma'(t(s))| = \sqrt3 e^{t(s)} = \sqrt3\,w).

3. Angolo con l'asse zz. Il versore dell'asse è k‾=(0,0,1)\underline k = (0,0,1) e cos⁡α=γ′⋅k‾∣γ′∣=et3 et=13\cos\alpha = \frac{\gamma'\cdot\underline k}{|\gamma'|} = \frac{e^t}{\sqrt3\,e^t} = \frac1{\sqrt3} non dipende da tt: la curva taglia sempre le "generatrici verticali" con lo stesso angolo (α≈54.7∘\alpha\approx 54.7^\circ), come l'elica sul cilindro.

Errori tipici. Dimenticare che γ\gamma è parametrizzata da tt mentre ss è la lunghezza: nell'inversione si ottiene t=ln⁡(1+s/3)t = \ln(1 + s/\sqrt3), non t=s/3t = s/\sqrt3; sbagliare l'estremo finale smax⁡=3(e−1)s_{\max} = \sqrt3(e-1) (che coincide con LL).
